Sam Bird finishes fastest in Practice

Sam Bird has taken first blood in the Putrajaya eprix by being the fastest man in the practice session. Drivers where beginning to push hard towards the end of the session as Nick Heidfeld hit the wall, which caused the session to stop with three minutes remaining.

A number of drivers came close to having a crash in the first and only practice session in this weeks eprix. Nelson Piquet who set the early pace in the session had a rear right suspension failure after hitting a bump too hard. Jerome d’ Ambrosio also came close to hitting the wall but he just missed it and the marshals where able to push him back so the Belgian driver could carry on.

Michela Cerruti rear right tyre came loose during the practice session which caused the first red flag of with 30 minutes to go.

The track was very dirty and bumpy at the beginning of the session and the times began to tumble in the early stages. The times dropped by five seconds from the start of the session to Sam Birds fastest lap time.

Sam Bird is in group four for the qualifying session which takes place at 10am in Malaysia.
