Buemi Quickest in FP1


Sebastien Buemi ended the first free practice session fastest despite missing the shakedown session on Friday. Esteban Gutierrez finished his first session in 19th. 

In the early stages of the session, the times were coming down very quickly as the circuit was cleaned by the cars at the start of the session.

Early pace setters 

Mitch Evans set the early of the pace in the session, but the lap times started to drop significantly during the session.

Maro Engel was having power issues, as the German stopped on track twice with a battery management issues.

After the first 15 minutes of the session, Lucas Di Grassi was topping the timesheets, but the lap times were extremely close, as the top seven was covered by half a second.

Sebastien Buemi who arrived in Mexico at 3:30 am this morning was calmly building up his speed and was running in fourth after the first 20 minutes of the session.

With 20 minutes remaining in the session, the drivers started to find more time from the circuit as Jose Maria Lopez and Sam Bird made it a Ds Virgin Racing one-two.

Jean-Eric Vergne quickly moved to the top of the timesheets, but he was quickly displaced by the championship leader Buemi with 15 minutes of the session remaining.

200Kw lap times

Drivers started to do their 200kW laps with 10 minutes remaining in the session. Loic Duval set the quickest lap time of the first round of 200kW laps.

Felix Rosenqvist and Jose Maria Lopez both spun on their first 200kW, proving that the track was still extremely slippery.

Despite being held up by Gutierrez, Buemi still went half a second quicker than Loic Duval on his 200kW lap. Nobody could beat the Swiss driver’s lap time, and once again Buemi ended the first practice session fastest.
