Buemi excluded from Race 1

Sebastien Buemi has been excluded from the first Montreal eprix for having an underweight car. This has now given Di Grassi an 18 point lead in the championship.

After a heavy crash in FP2, his entire monocoque needed rebuilding. The car was prepped just minutes before the race, with no set-up work and bare carbon fibre bodywork.

Buemi fought his way up to fourth despite getting bent steering from contact with Robin Frijns on the opening lap.

“The stewards note that this car was in large destroyed in an incident during Non-Qualifying Practice 2,” read the FIA notice.

“The team used a new monocoque, battery pack and gearbox as well as many other new parts.

“There was reportedly insufficient time to weigh the car after the rebuild and before the race, even though the weighing platform schedule had been increased by 30 minutes by the Technical Delegate.

“The team reportedly added 4kg additional ballast to compensate for any weight variation in the rebuilt car.”

Renault e.dams now has a 33-point lead over ABT Schaeffler Audi Sport in the teams’ championship.
