Di Grassi Champion as Vergne Wins

Di Grassi

Lucas Di Grassi has become the Formula E Champion for the 2016/2017 season after a controlled drive in Montreal.

Jean-Eric Vergne claimed his first ever win in Formula E after passing Rosenqvist who was struggling with his energy management.

Sebastien Buemi could only manage 11th place after a disastrous race for the season two champion. The Swiss driver was forced to pit at the beginning of the race for damage but still was able to fight his way through to finish in 11th.

Renault e.Dams secured the team’s championship despite not scoring a single point in the final race of the season.

Start of the Race

It was a crazy start to the race. Sarrazin span at turn one and caused a small pile up which everyone was able to get away from.

Then Buemi sustained damaged and lost part of his rear wing. The Swiss driver rear wing endplate fell off, but he had to pit due to receiving the black and orange flag, which forced him to the back of the grid.

Di Grassi fell down the order at the start as Jose Maria Lopez, and Tom Dillmann managed to pass the Brazilian in the first couple of laps.

Sam Bird began to fall down the order as Nick Heidfeld passed him to move into third place, and Tom Dillmann started to attack the British driver.

Vergne started to mount his attack on Rosenqvist after the first ten laps of the race. The Frenchmen had more battery life than the Swede, but he could not find a way through.

Bird was able to get back pass Heidfeld with a stunning move around the outside of turn seven to move back into the podium places.

Pit Stop Window

Both Audi Sport ABT cars lost out in the pit stops, as they were under cut by Maro Engel and Jerome D’Ambrosio.

Rosenqvist maintained the lead of the race during the pit stop window. All of the leading runners came out in the same place after the pit stop shuffle.

Buemi was only in 17th after the pit stop window. His title was slipping out of his hands by every apex he went past.

End of the Race

Vergne was able to pass Rosenqvist for the lead of the race, while the Swedish driver was regening. Meanwhile, Lopez was able to pass Bird and move into third place.

Loic Duval race ended in the wall as Robin Frijns tried to overtake the Frenchman, but the two made contact, and the Dragon Racing driver crashed out

Lopez caught Rosenqvist in the final few laps, but the Swede had him covered as Vergne secured his first win in Formula E.
