Nico Muller set a new Formula E lap record around the Marrakech circuit as he topped the rookie test by almost a second in his Audi.
The German started a full-power lap in the opening few minutes of the afternoon session and immediately beat Paul di Resta’s morning benchmark.
Then in the final moments of the session, Muller produced a stunning 200kW lap of a 1m19.651s to go nine-tenths clear of Jaguar’s Pietro Fittipaldi.
That time beat the previous lap record set by Daniel Abt in second practice on Saturday. Also, that time would have put Muller fastest in the qualifying group stages.
Fittipaldi ended the session second fastest with a lap in the closing stages of the afternoon. Maximillion Gunther (Dragon Racing) showed his talents to end the day third. Paul di Resta who finished the morning session first ended the day in fourth.
Techeetah driver James Rossiter who was leading parts of the test ended the day in fifth. Daniel Juncadella was sixth-fastest for Mahindra, 0.002s faster than Ferrari Formula 1 protege Antonio Giovinazzi, who was the top DS Virgin Racing driver.
Andrea Caldarelli gave his Dragon mechanics some work to do over the lunch period after his crash in the morning. He recovered well in the afternoon to finish ninth with Nyck de Vries completing the top ten.
De Vries drove Lucas di Grassi’s car for the test, and it was still struggling with reliability issues, as De Vries only managed two laps in the morning and 15 in the afternoon.
