Di Grassi ends FP1 fastest

Lucas Di Grassi ended the first practice session in Mexico fastest after being only one of two drivers to set a 200 kW lap.

Edorado Mortara who ended the session second quickest three-tenths off Di Grassi’s time after his 200kW lap. Championship leader Jean-Eric Vergne ended the session in third place.

Mitch Evans continued to show Jaguar’s strong pace as the Kiwi ended the session fourth. Jose Maria Lopez is also continuing his great return to the sport wit Dragon Racing as he ended the session fifth.

Sebastien Buemi ended the session in tenth place, with Sam Bird in ninth and Felix Rosenqvist in seventh.

The track was extremely dusty as the cars started the practice session. However, the lap times were already matching last year’s pole position time.

Felix Rosenqvist, Sam Bird and Nicolas Prost were caught out by the dusty track in the opening stages of the session as all three drivers found the runoff area at turn one.

Once the drivers cleaned the track up over the first 15 minutes of running the two Audi’s drivers jumped to the top of the timesheets with Sebastien Buemi in third.

As the drivers settled into their race runs at 180kW the lap times started to tumble again with Ds Virgin racing Alex Lynn showing the British team pace, but he and teammate Sam Bird will have a ten-place grid penalty for today’s race.

Lucas di Grassi set the first 200kW lap of the session and went eighth tenths faster than Lynn and 1. 7 seconds faster than last season’s qualifying session.

Mortara was the only other driver to set a 200kW lap but was three-tenths off Di Grassi.
