Races to be slightly shorter in season five

Formula E races will get slightly shorter in season five, as the race length will be approximately 40 minutes compared to the average race being 48 minutes.

With the series moving to one car per race in season five the FIA wants to ensure that the Gen 2 car will be able to be fast enough to put on a good show.

Drivers will also have two energy modes to try and make the races more entertaining without having to make a pit stop.

It will be mandatory for each driver to utilise two different power levels during the race, with the high-power mode resulting in a performance gain of approximately one second per lap while activated.

Also, there will no longer be a point awarded to the driver who sets the fastest lap. In its place, a new energy management parameter will be defined and a point awarded to the most efficient driver.
