Frenchman Stéphane Sarrazin will return to Formula E for the remainder of the season with the MS Andretti squad, as he replaces Tom Blomqvist for the remainder of the season.
Blomqvist has had a difficult rookie season with his best performance coming in his debut race in Marrakesh where he finished in eighth place. The team say that Blomqvist, a BMW Works driver, is departing Formula E to focus on the BMW GTE Program in the World Endurance Championship.
Team Owner Micheal Andretti thanked Blomqvist for his efforts this season but is now excited to work with Sarrazin who has a wealth of Formula E experience.
“First off – we are very thankful for the effort and time that Tom Blomqvist put in this season,” said Andretti Formula E CEO, Michael Andretti. “Stéphane Sarrazin brings with him a wealth of experience in Formula E. He is one of the smartest, most well-versed drivers in motorsports and we are excited for him to bring his knowledge to the MS&AD Andretti team. We will make a strong push and hopefully finish the season on a high note at the last four races.”
Sarrazin has competed in 33 Formula E races over three seasons, including 20 top 10s and three podiums. The 42-year-old driver finished a career-best sixth in the championship standings in Season Two by scoring points in every race of the season.
“I am thrilled to be joining the MS&AD Andretti team,” said Sarrazin. “After three seasons and a fantastic experience, it’s great to be back in Formula E. I will give my best to the team and try to score as many points as possible in the last four races of the season.”
Over his long career in motorsport, Sarrazin has put together an impressive resume, having competed in Formula One, WEC, WRC and many other disciplines. He will bring this experience to an MS&AD Andretti team that has shown pace all season but is looking for the edge it needs to find the podium.
Sarrazin and da Costa will team up for the first time at the BMW i Berlin E-Prix on May 19, followed by the Zurich E-Prix and the season-ending doubleheader at MS&AD Andretti’s home race in New York.
