Tom Dillmann is relishing his first full-time drive in Formula E, after he was announced as a NIO driver at the team’s launch event in London earlier this month.
The Frenchman made his debut at his home E-Prix in Paris during Season 3, and impressed immediately, finishing eighth for Venturi. He went on to complete the season for the team and scored points on 3 of his other 6 appearances.
“When I started in Paris in Season three, I finished eighth in my first race without driving the car prior to that so I was quite happy.” explained the 29 year old to Formula E Zone.
Despite his impressive results he failed to get a full seat for Season 4, but deputised for Edoardo Mortara on three occasions, the highlight being a superb fourth place in the opening New York race.
These performances helped Dillmann to secure his season five seat. However, Dillmann revealed to Formula E Zone that he had made contact with two others teams before finally signing to be Oliver Turvey’s teammate at the Chinese squad.
Although positive about his expectations for the season ahead, Dillmann reminded everyone that we won’t know the true pecking order until after the opening race.
“It’s hard to say, all I can say is the car feels good, I feel good in the team, I feel confident with the people in the team, the people I’m working with, the engineers, my mechanics.
The car feels fast, good to drive, so I think we can expect good things, but you never know until the first race and you compare to the others.”
Dillmann is currently in action at Pre-season testing this week in Valencia. Season 5 starts on December 15th in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia.
