Alexander Sims ends testing fastest for BMW


BMW capped off an impressive week in Valencia by finishing the final session fastest as Alexander Sims set a 1:17:402 to end the 3-day test fastest. 

The British driver jumped to the top of the leaderboard in the last four miuntes as the track was drying in the closing stages after heavy rain hit the track in the morning session.

Sims finished ahead of reigning champion Jean-Eric Vergne by 0.218s, as Mitch Evans put his Jaguar third on the timesheets.

Mahindra’s Pascal Wehrlein was just under half a second off the pace as he slotted into fourth place, while Formula 2 racer Maximilian Gunther impressed with the fifth-fastest time for Dragon as the American squad continues to evaluate its options for its sole-remaining season five seat.

Robin Frijns was sixth-quickest in his Virgin Racing car ahead of HWA’s Gary Paffett and the second Virgin Racing driver in  Sam Bird.

Formula E champions Sebastien Buemi and Lucas di Grassi rounded out the top 10 for Nissan e.dams and Audi respectively.

Ex-Formula one driver Felipe Massa caused the seventh red flag of the day when his Venturi ground to halt in the final hour. The Brazilian needed the session 16th-fastest time ahead of Dani Juncadella, who was acting as a stand-in at HWA for Stoffel Vandoorne who travelled to America for the American Grand Prix.

Oliver Rowland replaced Alexander Albon -who is lined to the second Toro Rosso seat- for the Nissan e. Dams squad and finished the18th fastest

The next time Formula E cars will take to the track will be for the season five opener – the Ad Diriyah ePrix – in Riyadh on December 15.
