Envision Virgin Racing’s Robin Frijns was fastest in practice for the Hong Kong Formula E race ahead of Nissan e.dams’ Oliver Rowland.
Frijns waited until the final moment to set his qualifying run on a drying track and set a 1:09:229. Rowland, who was fastest in the first free practice session ended the session in second, two-tenths slower than Frijns.
In the final five minutes of the session, there was a flurry of qualifying runs at full power towards which helped move the Techeetah’s Andre Lotterer into third place.
Edorado Mortara continued his strong form for Venturi in Hong Kong and ended the session fourth fastest ahead of Sebastien Buemi and Sam Bird.
Reigning champion Jean-Eric Vergne ended the session in seventh with Oliver Turvey in eighth and Gary Paffett in ninth for HWA. Daniel Abt rounded out the top ten.
There were a number of drivers struggling in the damp conditions as Dragon’s Jose Maria Lopez was the first to come across the escape road, running off at Turn 2 twice before Mitch Evans also took to the run-off in his Jaguar. The second Virgin of Sam Bird hit the wall on entry after locking his brakes, but he escaped with minor damage.
