Rowland tops wet Hong Kong FP1

Nissan e.Dams’s Oliver Rowland topped the times after the opening practice session for the 2019 Hong Kong EPrix, Formula E’s 50th race.

The Brit lapped the 1.86km Harbourfront circuit in 1:09.283 on a drying track after a downpour of rain occurred just before the session started making the track conditions extremely challenging.

The DS Techeetahs’ of Andre Lotterer and Jean-Eric Vergne were inside the top three, just 0.370 and 0.461 behind the Nissan.

Rowland’s teammate Sebastien Buemi was fourth ahead of Daniel Abt with Robin Frijns just 0.001 behind the Audi driver.

Jose Maria Lopez ended seventh ahead of Gary Paffett and Alexander Sims with Edoardo Mortara rounding out the top ten.

Stoffel Vandoorne just missed out on the top ten, and 2017 winner Sam Bird hit the wall at Turn 2 but was able to recover to the pits and finished 12th. Tom Dillmann was 13th ahead of Felipe Massa, the two Panasonic Jaguars of Mitch Evans and Nelson Piquet rounded out the top 16.

Mexico race winner Lucas Di Grassi ended 17th with countryman Felipe Nasr just behind, Antonio Felix Da Costa ended just 19th ahead of the two Mahindras of Pascal Wehrlein and championship leader Jerome D’Ambrosio. Oliver Turvey completed the field.
