Nissan e.Dams’ Oliver Rowland topped the opening session from Rome as he stole top spot away from Jean-Eric Vergne at the death.
The Brit was 0.055 faster than the reigning champion setting a 1:29.738 around one of the longest tracks on the Formula E Calendar.
Lucas Di Grassi ended third just a little over a quarter of a second behind Rowland, with Sam Bird just elven thousandths behind him while Sebastien Buemi rounded out the top five.
Daniel Abt ended sixth ahead of championship leader Antonio Felix Da Costa in seventh and Robin Frijns in eighth.
Edoardo Mortara and Pascal Wehrlein rounding out the top ten.
Mitch Evans ended 11th with Jose Maria Lopez in 12, Stoffel Vandoorne 13th, ahead of Andre Lotterer and Felipe Massa just over a second off pacesetter Rowland.
Alexander Sims was 16th ahead of the NIO pair of Tom Dillmann and Oliver Turvey, Gary Paffett 19th ahead of returnees Maxi Guenther, replacing Felipe Nasr, and Alex Lynn, replacing Nelson Piquet, while championship contender Jerome D’Ambrosio rounding out the field.
