Audi Sport ABT Schaeffler has confirmed Daniel Abt as their season six-driver next season.
The renewal of the German driver’s contract means he will be competing alongside team-mate Lucas di Grassi for a sixth season.
The two team-mates have been competing together in Formula E since the inaugural season in 2014.
The current season has been filled with speculation over Abt’s future at Audi, but the 26-year-old feels comfortable in the team and is grateful for the faith that has been put in him.
“I’ve never felt as comfortable in a team and a series as I have with Audi in Formula E,” said Abt. “I’m proud of the trust that’s being placed in me and will do everything to express my thanks with performance.”
With his seat being confirmed for next season Abt is going into the double-header in New York and next year with more positivity.
“We still have big aims for New York, so tackling the last two races and subsequent pre-season preparations with this confirmation and positive thoughts is even sweeter,” he said.
Abt and di Grassi are the most successful pairing in the series with 40 podium finishes in 56 races between the two drivers, with Audi securing victory in the teams’ championship last season.
Audi wanted to confirm the pairing for the upcoming season to send a positive message to the rest of the paddock.
Head of Audi Motorsport, Dieter Gass said: “By confirming our two drivers early on, we also want to send a clear message to our competitors: we will be optimally prepared and are happy to take on the challenge.”
