BMW i Andretti Motorsport driver Alexander Sims admitted his second place finish in the season five finale in New York felt like it had “been a long time coming”.
The British driver had a strong weekend to end his maiden season in Formula E resulting in his first podium finish.
New York saw Sims secure his best race finishes since a fourth place in Round Two in Marrakesh at the start of the season.
Alongside his first podium in Formula E, Sims secured his first pole position in Superpole for the last race on Sunday. He was pleased that everything came together to end the season on a high.
“The car has felt really good all weekend and it’s so nice to bring it all together and get positive results,”
He added “ It feels like it’s been a long time coming, but it’s been a great way to end the season.”
This season has been full of mixed results with a run of six races finishing with no points mid-season to battling at the front of the grid in New York.
The 31 year old was pleased that the results over the weekend proved what the team is capable of.
“I’m so pleased for everyone in the team. There have been lots of ups and downs, some disappointments this season, but it felt so good to be in strong starting positions, particularly to start from the front, and show what we can do.”
Sims admitted that his competitiveness lead to slight disappointment not to take the victory, but this took nothing away from the achievements of the weekend.
“I’m competitive, so when you start from pole you do hope to win, so there is the slightest amount of disappointment that we didn’t get that result, but ultimately it’s been a fantastic weekend and deserved results for the team.” he said.
Securing 33 points in New York means Sims finishes season five in 13th in the Drivers’ championship.
