Antonio Felix Da Costa has left the BMWi Andretti team with immediate effect after agreeing an exit from his BMW contract.
The Portuguese driver first joined the Andretti team for the 2016-17 season, and took the team’s first victory in Ad Diriyah last year.
According to e-racing 365, Da Costa, who has been a factory BMW driver since 2014, was unhappy with his decreased role in other championships after the Bavarian manufacturer withdrew from both the DTM and the world endurance championship; both series in which Da Costa formerly competed for BMW.
It is speculated that Da Costa is a prime target for the DS Techeetah team in the wake of Andre Lotterer’s defection to the nascent Porsche team. Da Costa has maintained a good relationship with team principal Mark Preston, whom he last drove for in the team’s previous guise as Team Aguri in 2016, and won the 2015 Buenos Aires E-Prix with.
An announcement on Da Costa’s future in Formula E is expected in the next few days.
