Virgin Envision Racing driver Sam Bird thinks their season six car is “another race winning car” after the concluding day of testing in Valencia.
The Brit set a lap of 1:15.570 to end the opening day of testing quickest. Alongside of topping the time sheet Bird’s main aim was to gain useful data.
“It was great to top the timings on the first day of the test but our main aim going into this week was to ensure we gained important data and learnings ahead of the first race in November,” he said.
After a successful three days of testing Bird is confident for the season ahead.
He said “The car feels very similar to last year’s, as we’ve got an optimised package from Audi Sport for season six, so I’m confident that we have another race winning car – we just need to see it in action now.”
Testing ended up being successful for the whole team as Robin Frijns went on top be quickest on day two setting a 1:15.377.
Frijns was feeling positive after being top of the timings and with the data that has been collected.
“Topping the timesheets on day two was really positive for me and the data gained from our race runs is hugely beneficial ahead of the season opener.”
“We’ll spend the next few weeks reviewing this and working on the simulator to make sure that we remain competitive for the upcoming season.” he added.
The Dutchman also praised the hard work put in by the whole team which proved to pay off this week.
He said “The team have worked incredibly hard over the summer period and the preparation really showed during this test”.
Between the two drivers a total of 412 laps were completed. Topping the time sheets for the first two days left the teams managing director Sylvain Filippi pleased.
“Topping the timings for two consecutive days is also great, it shows that we’ve got the outright pace and we were consistent on the longer running as well.” he said.
