Formula E have revealed the Gen2 EVO car, which the championship will use from the start of Season 7 at the end of 2020.
Like the Gen1 before it, the Gen2 car has gone through some minor bodywork alterations “to make it look more sleek and agile,” explained Founder & Chairman of Formula E Alejandro Agag.
He elaborated: “Its futuristic design once again showcases Formula E as the category for innovation in both technological advances and appearance.”
The new design includes a new re-profiled front wing and a removal of the front wheel guards, the introduction of a dorsal shark fin behind the roll hoop, and finally the rear winglets have been lowered and narrowed to be within the rear wheels, rather than above them as on the current Gen2 chassis.
The intention of these changes is to penalise contact between cars more harshly, thereby discouraging excessive car-to-car contact during battles for position.
“I am pleased that as it transitions to world championship status, we see a further evolution of the Gen2 car – the Gen2 EVO – with an exciting new look,” said FIA President Jean Todt.
“It is this progressive approach that has contributed to the expansion of the grid and increasing competitiveness of the championship, which continues to go from strength to strength and which is paving the way for the future of sustainable urban mobility.”
The Gen2 EVO will be officially presented at the Geneva Motor Show next month.
