DS Techeetah’s Antonio Felix Da Costa led at the end of free practice two ahead of the Mexico City E-Prix with a best laptime of 1:07.345, two tenths faster than Andre Lotterer’s session-topping time from FP1.
The German driver – who also secured pole position during Formula E’s last visit to the Autodromo Hermanos Rodriguez – was not far behind, heading most of the session and bringing the Porsche to within 0.041 of a second from Da Costa’s laptime. Jean Eric Vergne in the other DS Techeetah was also within a tenth of a second of his teammate.
Sebastien Buemi was fourth after another strong practice session in Mexico City for Nissan, ahead of Envision Racing’s Nick Cassidy, Jaguar’s Mitch Evans, and Porsche’s Pascal Wehrlein.
Oliver Rowland was eighth for Mahindra, ahead of Sam Bird and Lucas Di Grassi, with the top 10 seperated by four tenths of a second.
Jake Dennis was 11th for Andretti, ahead of Mercedes’ Stoffel Vandoorne, Maximillian Guenther and NIO 333’s Dan Ticktum.
Robin Frijns was 16th fastest, ahead of Alexander Sims and Antonio Giovinazzi.
Edoardo Mortara briefly went fastest with a laptime of 1:07.346, but this time was deleted due to a track limits violation, following which Mortara lost control and found himself in the run-off at turn 5 when the Venturi’s rear left wheel made contact with the grass. He ended the session 19th, just ahead of title rival Nyck De Vries.
Rounding out the time sheets were Oliver Turvey in 21st and Sergio Sette Camara, who ended the session spinning at the Foro Sol stadium and causing a yellow flag.
