Reigning Formula 2 champion Felipe Drugovich set a 1:43.736 to be fastest in this weekend’s Rookie Practice session, also known at Free Practice 0 for home team Maserati MSG.
Sheldon van der Linde – the brother of Kelvin – who deputised for Robin Frijns earlier in the year, finished second for Jaguar after leading for the majority of the 30 minute session.
Italian Luca Ghiotto finished third for Nissan, 4 tenths adrift of Drugovich’s time, with Charlie Eastwood (McLaren) and Yann Ehrlacher (DS Penske) competing the top 5.
Current Red Bull F1 reserve and junior Zane Maloney ended sixth for Andretti, with both Daniil Kvyat (NIO 333) and Yifei Ye (Porsche) locked up and ran on at Turn 7, and eventually ending seventh and eighth.
Jack Aitken (Envision) was last those who set a time as both Mahindra powered cars of Jehan Daruvala (Mahindra) and Adrien Tambay (ABT) did installation laps at the start of the session before parking the cars in the pits.
