Jake Dennis has reduced the gap at the top of the championship to just two points by taking pole for this afternoon’s Rome E-Prix. The Briton had to go up against his main championship rival Nick Cassidy in the final to claim his second pole of the season.
Norman Nato equalled his season best result from Monaco and will start from third on the grid, just ahead of yesterday’s race winner Mitch Evans.
Sam Bird, sacrificed a spot in the semi finals to his teammate Evans, but was still quickest of those knocked out in the quarter finals and will therefore line up fifth. Max Guenther will line up sixth pending an investigation for improving his time under yellow flags, with Dan Ticktum in seventh and Sebastien Buemi, who hit the wall on his quarter final lap, in eighth.
Edoardo Mortara just missed out on the duels and will start ninth, while Antonio Felix da Costa will be tenth.
Jake Hughes starts from 11th ahead of Jean-Eric Vergne, with former teammates Rene Rast and Lucas Di Grassi lining up on the seventh row together. Pascal Wehrlein will start from a lowly 15th.
Sergio Sette Camara will start from 16th ahead of Andre Lotterer, with Stoffel Vandoorne only 18th. ABT Cupra’s Nico Muller and Robin Frijns will line up together on row ten. The back row will consist of Roberto Mehri and Sacha Fenestraz, the latter not being able to take part in qualifying due to an ongoing battery change following sitting out this morning’s practice.
