Mitch Evans has ended the second session fastest in pre-season testing in Valencia with a 1.24.761.
Thursday’s afternoon session was the first time since Tuesday morning that cars took to the track after the fire that blazed through the paddock on Tuesday afternoon.
Due to the fire, Formula E decided that no team would be able to run at 350Kwh during the four-and-a-half-hour session in order to protect the batteries from overheating.
Nyck De Vries’s car did not run at all in the session after Mahindra lost a huge amount of parts in the fire that broke out on Tuesday.
The Indian team had been continuously packing away damaged equipment, which meant they only had enough spare parts to run one car for the remainder of the session. Mortara was the only driver to drive in the session.
Mahindra has been given compensatory test days to make up for the lost running they have had so far, as Nyck’s car will not be able to run again on Friday.
However, De Vries may share driving roles with Mortara on the final day of running which will begin at 8.30 am local time and conclude at 6.30 pm. local time.
In the early stages of the session, Robin Frijns was leading the way for Envision Racing as he continued to get to grips with his new car.
Then Jean-Eric Vergne and Mitch Evans swapped places at the top of the leaderboard until the halfway stage of the session.
Edoardo Mortara jumped to to first place in the last two hours setting a time of 1.24.903 which was five-tenths quicker than the fastest 300Kwh lap set by Vergne on Tuesday.
Sergio Sette Camara had an issue with his powertrain in testing and had only completed three laps of testing. The ERT driver missed around three hours of testing and emerged with 35 minutes remaining. The Brazilian went on to complete two further installation laps before pitting again and not returning to the track.
In the final half hour of the session, Evans popped up with the fastest time to end the day quickest.
Pascal Wehrlein stopped in the final two minutes, which caused a red flag. The German did manage to get his car moving, but then it stopped again on track and had to be recovered.
Antonio Felix Da Costa finished the session second fastest after only completing an hour and a half because Gabriela Jílková was in the car for the first three hours of the session.
The Portuguese driver set a 1.24.814 to end the day in second ahead of Edoardo Mortara in the Mahindra who has had a positive two sessions for the Indian team.
Robin Frijns was fourth fastest for Envision Racing with Wehrlein in fifth. Maximilian Gunther finished in sixth for Maserati with Oliver Rowland in seventh and Norman Nato in eighth.
Jehan Daruvala ended in ninth for Maserati and Nick Cassidy rounded out the top ten.
