Mahindra Racing Team Principal Frederic Bertrand is hopeful he can bring “some good news soon” regarding Mahindra’s position on racing in the GEN 4 era of Formula E.

The Indian team is the only squad to retain its original name from Formula E’s first season in 2014, but Mahindra has yet to commit to the GEN 4 era of Formula E, which is set to begin in season 13 at the end of 2026.

When interviewed by Formula E Zone on the FE BAR chat show, Bertrand was hopeful that he could share some positive news with the team’s loyal fanbase in the near future.

“We are working on it,” said Bertrand. “It’s coming, and we have a plan in place. We are working hard, making sure that we get good results to satisfy the shareholders and showing the progress we are making. Hopefully, we will be in a position to share some good news soon.”

Mahindra is currently 11th in the teams’ standings despite an upturn in form in the last two events, where Edoardo Mortara claimed pole position in Berlin and Nyck De Vries picked up his first points of the campaign in Shanghai.

Bertrand is satisfied with the progress that the team has been making in his second year in charge, and is confident that the team’s shareholders are onboard with his vision, and emphasised that the introduction of the GEN 3 EVO in season 11 is Mahindra’s current focus.

“You have to keep the board happy,” said Bertrand. “The best way to do that is to get strong results and show that the team is progressing.

“I think we have done that this season. I am happy with the changes that we have made. We have had quite a lot of new people join the team. Having Nyck De Vries and Edoardo Mortara join the team has been brilliant. They have given so much to the team and they are keeping everyone motivated.

“It started slowly; we are still last in the teams’ championship, but we have points now. Getting pole position in Berlin was a great way to prove that we are making progress. We have a good spirit, and things are looking up. We are looking forward to going back to racing in Portland and London.

“I wish we had more races because we would have more opportunities to score points, but we are impatient for season 11. I wish it could start sooner, but we can’t wait for Season 11.”
