DS Penske driver Maximilian Günther is confident that the Miami International Autodrome — currently used by Formula 1 — could become a viable track for Formula E in the future.
The all-electric series recently tested the Miami F1 circuit during the EVO sessions, a behind-closed-doors event that gave celebrities such as Sergio Agüero and Tom Felton the chance to get behind the wheel of a Formula E car.
The session took place on a shortened version of the F1 track, and Günther believes that the modified layout could be used for an official Formula E race in Miami down the line.
“I can see it being a good Formula E track,” said Günther. “I think we all really enjoyed it. The 11 drivers who were there got the chance to try it out during two short sessions, and it was a lot of fun. The facility is great — we always see great racing in F1 on this circuit, and I’m sure there are layouts and configurations that could make it a great Formula E track for our current cars. Hopefully, we’ll get to race there at some point soon.”
Günther also praised the EVO session as a valuable event for Formula E and was impressed by his celebrity partner, Vinnie Hacker, over the course of the two-day experience.
“It was a really cool event from Formula E,” Günther said. “It’s great to introduce the sport to more people and give them the experience of feeling what it’s like to drive an electric race car — a Formula E car — themselves. We taught them everything from scratch, and then they actually got behind the wheel. Everyone involved really enjoyed it.
“For me personally, it was great working with Vinnie and seeing his progress. He had a fantastic approach and did really well. Most importantly, he kept the car in one piece — that was the top priority! I was really proud of what he did, and I think the event was a big success for the championship. We’ll see the results of it very soon.”
While the EVO session took place at the Miami International Autodrome, Formula E will officially be racing at Homestead-Miami Speedway for the 2025 Miami E-Prix. The circuit, traditionally known for hosting NASCAR and IndyCar events, has been adapted to suit the unique demands of Formula E.
