Norman Nato has claimed his maiden pole position in Miami for Nissan and secured three points—the first of his campaign so far.

The French driver, who hadn’t scored a point in the opening four races of the season, secured pole after setting a 1:23.037, edging out Jake Dennis.

Dennis will start second after setting a time just one-tenth slower than Nato. The British driver clocked a 1:23.166.

Antonio Felix da Costa narrowly missed out by 0.021s to Dennis in the semi-final. The Porsche driver looked on course to beat the reigning champion from Season 9, but Dennis produced a mighty final sector to knock out the Season 6 champion.

Robin Frijns will start the race in fourth place for Envision Racing after a fast but scruffy lap in the semi-finals. The Dutchman set a 1:23.389, two-tenths slower than his quarter-final time.

Nyck de Vries will start from fifth after being knocked out by Frijns, who was the fastest driver in Group B.

Stoffel Vandoorne will start sixth. The Belgian was the second-quickest driver in Group A but was eliminated in the quarter-finals by Dennis.

Lucas di Grassi will line up seventh. The Lola Yamaha driver made his first duel appearance of the season for the team but didn’t progress past the quarter-finals after losing to Nato.

David Beckmann will start from eighth. The German driver made it into the duels for the first time but was defeated by da Costa in the quarter-finals.

Oliver Rowland will start 16th after missing the chicane on his final run. The championship leader has expressed frustration over the changes teams made between FP1 on Friday and FP2 on Saturday.

Taylor Barnard also failed to progress beyond the group stages, along with Pascal Wehrlein and Nick Cassidy, who were both knocked out in Group B. Barnard will start the race in 11th, while Wehrlein starts ninth and Cassidy 13th.

Mitch Evans also missed out on the duels and will start 14th, compounding the problems Jaguar has faced this season.
