Dan Ticktum will race for Fortescue Zero Racing in the 2026/27 Formula E season, partnering Taylor Barnard to form an all-British driver line-up for the Australian-backed team ahead of the championship’s GEN4 era.
The announcement marks a new chapter for Ticktum, ending his long-standing partnership with the team he joined when he first entered Formula E. He will now take on a fresh challenge with Fortescue Zero Racing as the team prepares for its debut season.
A New Chapter for Ticktum
For Ticktum, the move offers an opportunity to help build a new team rather than remain within an established operation. His competitiveness is well established, and his Formula E experience should provide a valuable benchmark as Fortescue Zero Racing prepares to enter the championship.
Speaking about the move, Ticktum said: “What I love about Fortescue Zero Racing is that they want to do things differently.”
He added: “To get to race and represent Fortescue Zero Racing in its first season is a huge honour. Getting to be part of building a team from scratch is exciting, especially one that’s got a long history of competing and winning.”
Jim Wright, Fortescue Zero Racing’s team principal, explained why Ticktum was the right choice for the seat.
“He’s fast, fearless, a proven race winner in Formula E and not afraid to push boundaries,” Wright said.
A Breakthrough for Ticktum
Ticktum made his Formula E debut in the 2021/22 season after competing in the FIA Formula 2 Championship. He has since remained with the same team, continuing his involvement through its various changes.
His 2024/25 campaign marked a turning point in his Formula E career. He secured his maiden podium at the Tokyo E-Prix, delivering CUPRA KIRO’s best result at the time, before taking his first victory at the Jakarta E-Prix.
He followed that breakthrough with another victory at the Tokyo E-Prix, further demonstrating his ability to convert opportunities into race-winning performances.
These results established Ticktum as a competitive force in Formula E and strengthened his reputation as a driver capable of challenging for the top positions.
All Eyes on Fortescue Zero Racing
Ticktum’s move comes at a pivotal moment for Formula E. The 2026/27 season will usher in the GEN4 era, introducing a new generation of cars and presenting teams with fresh technical challenges.
Expectations will be high as Fortescue Zero Racing prepares for its first Formula E campaign. Building a competitive team will require more than securing the right driver line-up: car performance, engineering development and operational execution will all play crucial roles in determining its success.
Ticktum’s experience should prove invaluable during this process. His understanding of Formula E’s technical and strategic demands could help the team establish its baseline performance and accelerate its development programme.
However, the transition to GEN4 will present challenges for the entire grid. Teams will need to adapt quickly to the new machinery, refine their technical packages and maximise performance as the season progresses.
After several seasons with CUPRA KIRO, during which he secured podium finishes and race victories, Ticktum will now aim to reproduce that success with Fortescue Zero Racing. The 2026/27 season will provide the team with its first major test as it seeks to establish itself in Formula E and compete in a new era for the championship.
