Oliver Rowland has taken his first win of the season after the Nissan driver capitalised on a late race safety car to go from fourth to first in a single lap.

A safety car was deployed on Lap 29 for the stricken Kiro of David Beckmann, just after half a dozen drivers, including Rowland, had taken their Attack Mode. However the speed of the Mexican marshals meant the safety car lasted only one lap, and when the field went green, Rowland had 90 seconds of Attack left.

Rowland set out to make moves on Jake Dennis and Pascal Wehrlein at Turns 1 and 5, before making the crucial move on Antonio Felix da Costa for the lead, just before another safety car was called for Mitch Evans stopping at the chicane on the back straight.

Evans had been part of a concertina on the restart involving Edoardo Mortara, who had been previously been hit in the race by Sam Bird.

The two late safety cars caused havoc for those who had not taken Attack Mode, but all did take their full Attack Mode allocation with the exception of Sebastien Buemi, Lucas Di Grassi and Edoardo Mortara, who will therefore be disqualified from the race.
