Antonio Felix Da Costa took victory in Portland and took his third race win of the season in a frantic Portland E-Prix.
Da Costa took the win after Nick Cassidy spun at Turn 11 and 12 with one lap to go. It was a Jaguar one-two, with Cassidy leading and Mitch Evans in second, but Evans had a five-second penalty for a collision with Jake Hughes.
Hughes picked up a puncture after Evans drove into him after the first chicane, which effectively ended the McLaren driver’s race.
Evans crossed the line in first, but his penalty demoted him to eighth place, which allowed Da Costa to pick up his third win of the season.
Robin Frijns took the second spot on the podium in an upturn in form for the Envision Racing team. Jean-Eric Vergne came from 14th to secure the final step on the podium for the double Formula E Champion.
Cassidy’s error and finishing position of 19th offered the perfect opportunity for Pascal Wehrlein to close the 25-point gap to his title rival.
But the Porsche driver failed to feature in the leading group for much of the 27-lap race, becoming the final driver to take both Attack Modes, and could only finish 10th to reduce Cassidy’s points lead to 24 points.
The German also remains under investigation for an alleged collision with Maserati MSG’s Maximilian Guenther during the race.
Classified second, Robin Frijns had featured amongst the leading runners for much of the race as the podium was completed by DS Penske’s Jean-Eric Vergne, who had climbed from 14th.
Mahindra’s Edoardo Mortara came home in fourth place, Nico Muller in the ABT finished in fifth place and Andretti’s Jake Dennis completed the top six, the reigning champion having featured towards the front in the early running before slipping back in the pack.
Sam Bird finished in seventh for McLaren. Evans came home in eighth place for Jaguar after he served his five-second penalty.
Stoffel Vandoorne picked up two points for finishing in ninth. Wehrlein rounded out the top ten.
