Mitch Evans has secured pole position for the Portland EPrix, and crucially, three championship points in his pursuit of the World Championship.
The Jaguar driver set a 1:08.820 to secure pole position, beating Andretti’s Norman Nato in the final.
Evans’ main championship rivals start further down the order, with Pascal Wehrlein in seventh and Nick Cassidy in 11th.
Nato will have to take a ten-place grid penalty for exceeding the allotted number of reprimands for the season. So, the Andretti driver will start the race from 12th.
Jake Hughes qualified in third but will start alongside Evans in second. The Brit lost out to Evans in the semi-final stage.
Robin Frijns qualified in fourth after making a mistake on his flying lap in the semi-final. However, due to Nato’s penalty, he will start in third place.
Antonio Felix da Costa qualified in fifth place for Porsche but will start in fourth. The Portuguese racer lost out to Robin Frijns from Envision Racing.
Dan Ticktum qualified in sixth place for NIO 333 but will start in fifth. The British driver was the quickest in Group B of qualifying, but he lost out to Norman Nato in the quarter-final stage.
Lucas Di Grassi will take a six-place grid penalty that he picked up from Shanghai. The ABT Cupra driver qualified in seventh place but will now start the race in 13th.
Edoardo Mortara qualified in eighth but will start in sixth after going off on his flying lap in the duels.
Pascal Wehrlein missed out on the duels but will start seventh, and Nico Müller will start alongside the Porsche driver in eighth.
Sebastien Buemi will start in ninth place for Envision Racing. The Swiss driver will start ahead of reigning World Champion Jake Dennis in 10th.
Nick Cassidy will start 11th after missing out on the duels in Group A. The Jaguar driver won the race in Portland last season and won’t be dismayed by his qualifying position after winning the peloton-style race from 21st at the halfway stage of the race in Misano.
Jean-Eric Vergne will start 15th after the double Formula E Champion was blocked by Sergio Sette Camara at Turn 12 and had to take avoiding action and run onto the grass.
Caio Collet will start in 14th on his debut with Nissan.
