Dan Ticktum secured back-to-back pole positions after defeating António Félix da Costa in the final duel, in what was a heated rematch following their clash in yesterday’s race that resulted in Ticktum receiving a 33-second time penalty.
Da Costa was outqualified by nearly seven-tenths of a second in the final. Ticktum posted a 1:26.222, while Da Costa recorded the slowest time of the duel stage with a 1:26.898. Ticktum’s quickest lap actually came in the semi-final, where he beat Edoardo Mortara with a 1:26.217.
Mortara will start third for Mahindra Racing, ahead of Jean-Éric Vergne in fourth.
Felipe Drugovich was the fastest loser in the quarter-finals and will start fifth, ahead of Taylor Barnard, who missed out on the semi-finals by just one thousandth of a second to Da Costa.
Championship leader Mitch Evans will start seventh, ahead of reigning world champion Oliver Rowland in eighth.
Norman Nato lines up ninth, while yesterday’s podium finisher Pepe Martí starts alongside the Nissan driver on the fifth row.
Nico Müller will start 11th ahead of Maximilian Günther in 12th.
Jake Dennis qualifies 13th, with Pascal Wehrlein 14th.
Yesterday’s race winner Nyck de Vries will start from 15th, ahead of Joel Eriksson, Sébastien Buemi, and Nick Cassidy.
Lucas di Grassi and Zane Maloney make up the final row of the grid for Lola Yamaha ABT Formula E Team.
