Jaguar TCS Racing’s long-standing Team Principal and Managing Director of JLR Motorsport, James Barclay, will step down from his role effective 1 August 2025, Jaguar Land Rover (JLR) has confirmed.

Barclay, who joined the company in 2013, has played a pivotal role in shaping Jaguar’s modern motorsport identity. Under his leadership, Jaguar TCS Racing reached new heights, culminating in Jaguar’s first world championship title since 1991 — a landmark achievement for the iconic British marque.

“James has been an integral member of the JLR leadership team since he joined the company in 2013,” the company said in an official statement. “Among many significant accomplishments during his time at JLR, last year, James sensationally led Jaguar TCS Racing to Jaguar’s first world championship win since 1991.”

In addition to his achievements in Formula E, Barclay recently spearheaded the development of a bold new venture: Defender’s entry as a factory team into the Dakar Rally and FIA World Rally Raid Championship from 2026 — marking JLR’s return to competitive rally raid racing on the world stage.

“More recently, James has been instrumental in establishing the programme which will see Defender enter as a factory team into the Dakar Rally and FIA World Rally Raid Championship from 2026,” the statement continued.

While his next move has not yet been disclosed, JLR confirmed Barclay is leaving “to pursue an exciting role outside our business.” He will remain in his current role until August to ensure a smooth transition.

Barclay’s departure signals the end of an era for Jaguar TCS Racing. He will hope to leave the team on a high after a challenging start to the season. Jaguar has yet to replicate the high points of last year, with Mitch Evans’s win in São Paulo now overshadowed by a string of underwhelming performances in 2025.

The South African will be looking to help the team turn its fortunes around before Barclay departs in August.
