Formula E has announced that the Saudi Arabian E-Prix will move from the Diriyah circuit to the Jeddah Grand Prix track for the upcoming season.

Traditionally, the event was held at the Diriyah UNESCO World Heritage site, but it will now take place on a shortened version of Jeddah’s Corniche Circuit, which is known for being one of the fastest tracks in the world. This change is expected to enhance overtaking opportunities in the GEN 3 era, aligning with the goals of the switch.

The decision to move the race was made following an e-vote by the FIA World Motor Sport Council and received approval from the Saudi Arabian Ministry of Sport. Jeddah will now host the Saudi Arabian double-header on February 14-15, 2025. Diriyah, located just outside Riyadh, had hosted the event for the past six seasons.

Formula E organisers had already hinted at a new venue in Saudi Arabia when they released a proposed calendar for the 2024-25 season back in June. The only other round yet to be confirmed is scheduled for March 8, previously expected to take place in Chiang Mai, Thailand. However, recent political changes in Thailand have cast doubt on these plans, with organizers now searching for an alternative location.

The official track layout for the Jeddah E-Prix will be confirmed by the FIA World Motor Sport Council in October.

A Formula E spokesperson commented: “The Jeddah E-Prix will deliver an exhilarating race on a modified version of the fast and flowing Corniche street circuit, further promoting the growth of motorsport in the region. With its stunning Red Sea backdrop, the 2025 Jeddah E-Prix is set to offer an unforgettable experience for both fans and competitors.”
