Cassidy takes lights to flag victory in a wet Shanghai

Nick Cassidy won a rain-affected Shanghai E-Prix, dominating the race in tricky conditions for Jaguar.

The race was delayed by an hour and a half due to heavy rain, and once the weather eased, it began behind the safety car. Drivers completed seven laps behind the safety car before a rolling start was conducted.

This created a significant field spread due to poor visibility, allowing several drivers to immediately activate Attack Mode — including the top three: Cassidy, Pascal Wehrlein, and Antonio Felix Da Costa.

In the treacherous conditions, Wehrlein and Da Costa struggled to put any real pressure on Cassidy. Wehrlein had a few moments at Turn 8, running wide while attempting to close the gap, but the Season 10 World Champion couldn’t make inroads into Cassidy’s lead.

Cassidy remained composed, braving the wet track to secure his first victory of the season, with Wehrlein finishing second and Da Costa third.

Oliver Rowland failed to score any points in the second Shanghai race after starting 17th. He opted not to take risks during the rain-hit qualifying session. With Porsche drivers Wehrlein and Da Costa finishing second and third, Rowland is now unable to clinch the championship in the next round in Jakarta.

Jake Hughes finished fourth for Maserati, ahead of Jean-Eric Vergne in the DS Penske. Nico Müller scored points for Andretti after making effective use of Attack Mode in the wet conditions.

However, Attack Mode — usually a powerful strategic tool this season — had less of an impact due to drivers struggling to put the power down on the slippery surface.

Stoffel Vandoorne finished seventh, ahead of Robin Frijns in his Envision Racing car. Lucas Di Grassi secured ninth for Lola Yamaha ABT, while Taylor Barnard claimed the final points-paying position for McLaren.

Championship leader Oliver Rowland finished the race in 13th place after starting in 17th. The Brit struggled to use his Attack Mode to fight through the field.
