Formula E’s Chief Championship Officer Alberto Longo has suggested that Formula E will look at alternative venues for pre-season testing if the test can’t happen in Valencia after severe floods hit the city killing 95 people.
Longo conveyed deep sympathy and a strong commitment to working with local authorities to assess the best course of action, emphasising that the championship’s priority is supporting Valencia’s recovery.
“The most important thing,” Longo stated, “is that we are working with local authorities. I have a meeting every hour with them to define what they need and to determine whether they still wish to go ahead with the test.”
He expressed that if Valencia authorities decide to postpone or relocate the event, Formula E would fully support the decision and immediately take steps to find an alternative venue.
“If they prefer not to do the test, then obviously we will move the test elsewhere, and this is definitely in our minds,” stated Longo.
Longo referred to the situation as a “disaster” with a scale of human tragedy far outweighing any sporting event. “Our top priority today is keeping in mind all those people who have lost their loved ones,” he continued. “We are here to help, and it’s crucial to communicate that to our fans: Valencia needs us, and we are ready to do everything we can to support.”
Longo added that, if necessary, Formula E will bring resources to support humanitarian efforts in the region, demonstrating their commitment to help Valencia return to “normality as soon as possible.” The racing series is prepared to mobilise its resources, both logistical and practical, to offer support during the ongoing crisis.
While the test in Valencia is a highly anticipated prelude to the championship season, Longo was clear that, under the current circumstances, it remains a secondary concern.
